NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev on Wednesday asked President Droupadi Murmu to nominate two Manipuri women from different communities to the Rajya Sabha, to help rectify the “grievous harm” inflicted on women of the state.
With the President empowered to nominate two seats in the Upper House, Dev suggested that President Murmu nominate women from Manipur, as the move could “send out a very strong message” to the state as well as to the women. who have borne the brunt of the raging violence over the last three months.
Dev took the opportunity to make her suggestion when the delegation of INDIA bloc met with the President on Wednesday morning, to submit their ground report on the violence-torn state. A delegation of INDIA leaders had visited the state last weekend. She asked the President for a few minutes to make her point when the delegation leaders led by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had spoken on Manipur.
