UP forest dept left red-faced as ‘captured’ leopard kills 2 | India News

[ad_1]

BIJNOR: Following a spate of leopard attacks on humans in parts of UP’s Bijnor district in the past few months, the local forest department had made a much-publicised announcement of capturing the animal “responsible for the recent deaths” a few days ago. However, two human killings in just 24 hours again by a big cat has left the forest department deeply embarrassed.
In the latest instance on Monday evening, a 13-year-old boy of Bhogpur under Sahuwala range near the Corbett National Park was dragged into the bushes by a leopard and killed.
When the victim, Karan Singh, cried out for help, his family rushed to the spot and found the boy dead. His body has been sent for postmortem, police said on Tuesday. Karan’s death took the human toll by leopards in the district to at least 15 since February.
Some hours earlier, about 30km away from Bhogpur, a 62-year-old woman, Gomati Devi, was killed and her body was left half-eaten by a big cat. The incident occurred in Afjalgarh’s Shahpur Jamal area.
Forest officials now claim that “there may be two big cats involved in the separate killings”.
