India’s solar mission Aditya L1 launched successfully, Government News, ET Government

Adding another feather in the cap, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Saturday successfully launched its maiden solar mission, Aditya L1, from the spaceport in Sriharikota. The Aditya-L1 will be the first space-based observatory that will study the Sun, was on Friday launched using ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) successfully completed its three stages of separation in a little over 10 minutes of the launch.

The said mission will see the spacecraft travel about 1.5 million km from the Earth over 125 days and will be placed in a Halo orbit around the Lagrangian point L1 which is considered closest to the Sun.

ISRO said that the PSLV-XL rocket carries about 1,480.7 kg Aditya-L1 spacecraft. The 44.4 metre tall PSLV-C57 rocket with a lift off mass of 321 ton carrying Aditya-L1.

According to ISRO, the mission will look to collect details and look to understand the Coronal Heating and Solar Wind Acceleration, the initiation of Coronal Mass Ejection, and near-earth space weather and the solar wind distribution.

The Aditya-L1 mission includes seven scientific payloads to carry out the study around the sun. The latest successful launch comes just days after India was able to successfully land on moon under the Chandrayaan 3 mission.
